WE SHOP LOCAL

At Olif, we've always strived to source fresh, local produce, and to support local producers.  We try to base our dishes on what's avaiable locally, as well as sourcing other seasonal produce from sustainable sources where we can't buy locally.

Fresh Local Food

Now, more than ever, it's important to #ShopLocal and #SupportLocalBusinesses . Here are our suppliers - all of whom we'd recommend without hesitation!

D L Clampitt

D L Clampitt is a fruit and vegetable wholesaler based in Llanrwst, just a few miles from Betws Y Coed. Run by Dave and his son Steffan, the company provides market-fresh fruit and vegetables to businesses across Conwy.  Always willing to go the extra mile to get you what you need and in addition to fruit & veg, they supply us with yoghurts from Llaeth Y Llan in Llanefydd and milk, cream, butter and cheese from South Caernarfon Creameries - better known under the ‘Dragon’ brand. Dave and Steffan also supply us with speciality herbs and vegetables, including local heritage tomatoes, and 'Padron' peppers -  very popular in the Gallicia region in Spain - delicious pan fried in Blodyn Aur Rapeseed oil and sprinkled with Anglesey Halen Môn sea salt!

DANIEL MORRIS

Daniel Morris, based in Denbigh, supplies meat to restaurants across Conwy as well as to Michelin Star restaurant 'Odettes' in London and Michellin Bib Gourmand restaurant, 'Porth Erias' in Old Colwyn, both owned by Welsh celebrity chef, Bryn Williams, who we believe even did a stint in the butchers shop when a teenager.  Daniel took over the business after Glyn Davies, the owner of small, family-run Lon Farm in Prion, retired in 2018. Daniel continues to source Glyn's award-winning pork, bacon and sausages, which were our first choice after trying nearly every locally made butchers sausage in the Conwy Valley and beyond! We also source our beef from Daniel's own farm in Denbigh and lamb from Bylchau Farm, just across the moors.

MERMAID SEAFOOD

Mermaid Seafoods has been run by the same family for two generations and has been sourcing the best fresh fish and seafood for north Wales restaurants, hotels and private customers since 1984. We get weekly deliveries of locally grown Menai Mussels and local smoked salmon, as well as fish and seafood from local fishermen whenever available. We cook our Menai Mussels with a creamy Welsh Taffy Apple cider. Perfect with a selection of artisan breads from Scilicorns!

SCILLICORNS BAKERY

Scillicorns is a third generation traditional family bakers, based in Llanrwst. Using a 100 year old oven, they produce artisan bread using recipes that have been handed down over the generations. Head baker, Anthony, can often be found on his bike delivering bread around the village! We get daily deliveries of artisan breads from Scilicorns, who also make our Catalan Flatbreads to our secret recipe. Our crispy garlic flatbread, with Dragon butter and fresh garlic is always very popular with diners.

STORI BEERS

Stori Beers & Wines, based in Bala, and run by husband and wife team Fiona and Neil is an independent bottle shop and Tap Room which stocks the widest selection of Welsh beers in North Wales! They supply us with lots and lots of small-batch gins, as well as an ecclectic and ever-changing selection of Welsh craft ales, lagers and ciders. Everything from Polly's Brew to Tiny Rebel - we try to keep up with what's fresh and new in the world of craft ales, and Stori always give us a great selection. If you're ever in Bala - pay them a visit!

BLAS AR FWYD

Blas ar Fwyd is a Welsh Food Hub which specialisies in supporting local producers to get their products to market.  They stock without a doubt, the most comprehensive range of Welsh food products for both domestic and trade customers and have been invaluable for a business like ours that wants to celebrate the Welsh food and drink industry. From wine, ales, and spririts to cheese, pates, biscuits and preserves, if you want to try artisan Welsh produce, this is the place to try!

SIOP TANDDERWEN

Our family-run local Spar also has its own bakery, supplying us with fresh sliced white and granary bread every day, and it's very popular. We regularly get guests asking where they can buy the bread, and people travel from other areas to get some! The shop also sells a lot of locally produced food and the friendly team at Spar, led by Rachael Evans are always there for us when we need an extra lemon or a pint of milk, and it's brilliant to have a shop supporting other small businesses just a stone's throw away!

south caernarfon creameries

We source most of our dairy produce from Wales’ oldest and largest dairy co-operative, which is owned by small local farmers whose cows graze on lush Welsh pastures in North Wales. Their award-winning 'Dragon' products are stocked extensively throughout Wales and have won national and international awards. We use their delicious salted butter in our cooking as well as putting it on the tables for guests to butter their toast in the morning. Their mature cheddar and double cream give a unique flavour to our traditional Anglesey Eggs recipe. Creamy leek mash, topped with sliced eggs, cream and cheese. Deliciously indulgent!

OCHR CEFN ISA

We get all of our eggs from Marian at Ochr Cefn Isa farm - just a few miles away. The farm has the highest possible hen welfare, resulting in happy and content hens producing eggs of the highest quality. The hens have the freedom to naturally range across the farmland creating their own natural habitat on land which is rich in vegetation,  with trees, hedges and stone walls providing natural shelter for the hens. The farm has achieved RSPCA ‘Freedom Food’ accreditation and this is a family that genuinely care for their hens.

BWYDYDD MADRYN FOODS

Blodyn Aur (translates to 'Golden Flower') is the only Welsh Rapeseed Oil - Welsh grown, Welsh pressed and Welsh bottled! Launched in April 2010, Blodyn Aur is run by farmers and friends Llyr Jones, Bryn Jones and Medwyn Roberts. Together they have set-up a modern oil pressing facility on Llyr’s farm near the village of Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr near Corwen in north Wales. Blodyn Aur enhances flavour instead of dominating it, and adds a rich golden colour to food. We use it for all our cooking and it’s delicious with bread and our homemade raspberry balsamic reduction. It’s also the best base for our very popular hummus!

HALEN MON

Sea salt harvested from the waters around Anglesey. Arguably the best sea-salt in the world and on the tables in all the finest restaurants worldwide. It’s on our tables too, and we use it to season all of our food! Delicious sprinkled on local cod bites or on our crispy twice fried potatoes.

HARLECH FOODS

Harlech Foodservice, based near Pwllheli is an independent, family owned and managed company that provides us with all of our store cupboard ingredients in commerical sizes, as well as providing us with access to range of unique Welsh products, like Welsh Lady preserves (also based in Pwllheli).

PARISELLA

Italian ice cream, made in Wales with milk from Conwy Valley cows! Creamy and delicious with our home made chocolate brownie, and perfect in an Affogato with Poblado Coffi. We're always changing our flavours but our favourite has to be the honeycomb crunch!

TREGROES WAFFLES

Tregroes Waffles are made in a co-operative bakery in the hills of the Teifi Valley. Perfect with a coffee - these delicious toffee waffles are a favourite with our guests! The trick is to rest them on the top of your coffee for a moment to get the caramel centre lovel and gooey!

CHANTLER TEAS

Chantler Teas is run by husband and wife team Elizabeth and Barry Chantler who blend their own specialist ethically sourced loose leaf teas at their home in Pembrokeshire. We’ve got a great variety, including a soothing Welsh Moonlight tea, perfect as an after dinner drink.
